A Back Story – H2LiftShips Book 2

“Imagine a world, exactly like ours, but different.”

H2LiftShips - A Backstory

The back story for the crew starts at the Luna Academy, then Earth and outer space. Deal with pirates, bioGel mutiny, divorce asteroids, casinos and always food.

Trading and dealing for a living is what the LunaCola’s crew does to get by. But everybody (or octopus) has a backstory, and the members of the crew have more than enough to reminisce. There’s nothing quite like sitting down to play cards, celebrating a job well done, and recollecting the past but there’s still plenty that still has to come to light.

The big questions, such as how in the galaxy did the born-and-bred asteroid citizen learn to drive sports cars on Earth? Are the bioGels Sentient?

The even bigger question is, are they plotting against their owners? And what dark secrets is Jack harboring behind his fears of prison? Those answers and more. Plus: Do octopuses really think that they are better than the terrestrials? (Spoiler: yes they do, and there’s a story there as well.)

★★★★
I find that the stories are a mix of science and science fiction, and there is a line where both meet. There is a mix of different character, including alien octopuses and it sure is an adventure into and beyond the solar system. The story is well written, and the technical terms and stories jargon can take some getting used to, but as I read the first book in the series, and intend to read the next book, I am now familiar with Freeman’s writing style, and how he intertwines real science, and science fiction, while creating an entertaining story.

The author is unquestionably skilled in the art of merging emotions. He does it yet again in this book. Adventurous, fascinating, mind stimulating, hilarious, thought-provoking…… Bob just tosses us into a cocoon of emotions with this well-written piece, and it’s a great read for everyone who appreciates a good bout of mental workouts.

★★★★★
Just like in the previous book, Beyond Luna, the author does a great job in this novel. The use of nonhuman characters as key characters in the story makes for a true Sci-fi experience. Also, there was no unnecessary repetition of concepts from the prequel, as the author seamlessly merges this book with the previous one, with this story being not only a background story into the lives of the characters who make space travel possible but also a continuation of their adventures from the previous book.
