With language as rich as a steaming mug of thick hot cocoa, this is the kind of book you might want to curl up with by the fire on a cold, rainy day. At times like walking amidst a lively Renaissance Faire, and at others like going on a road trip through expanses of mountainous wilderness and beachy coastlines, Tarnished feels like a combination of elements from open-world adventure RPGs like Dragon’s Dogma, lush and fantastical action romances like Stardust, and classic folklore like the mythical stories of swan maidens.

Tarnished is a beautifully written sapphic high fantasy with a twist you won’t see coming. The author immerses you in the setting; I could almost smell the food from the taverns they visit and feel the crunch of the autumn leaves between my feet. I was also so there for the slow burn of the romance. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
